Teaser Trailer

Danimal, is a mumblecore mockumentary original comedy that follows a YouTube star’s demise as his love for animals takes over.

Written by/Starring: Danny Groh, Directed/Edited by: Matthew Strickland

Director Statement: Danny Groh's story is one of self doubt and self love and appeals to the Danimal inside us all. Our goal was to shoot this with a micro budget and have as much fun as possible to get back to the grass roots filmmaking of our youth, run and gun style. All the actors/crew donated their talents and time to help bring this story to life. The film almost entirely improvised and shot handheld to capture Danimal's (and Danny's) chaotic spirit. Our intention is to bring a mainstream comedy vibe to a mumblecore aesthetic. It's Chris Farley meets Andrew Bujalski.

The CAST: Danny Groh (Joe Pera Talks With You), Ben Warheit (Joker), Dan Licata (Saturday Night Live), Eliza Hurtwiz (Joe Pera Talks With You), Clare O’Kane (Saturday Night Live), Nick Naney (The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon), Milly Tamarez (Comedy Central), Micah Sterenberg (A Maine Movie), Dan Fox (Late Night With David Letterman), Bailey Belzora (Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show), Courtney Maginnis (Cherry Bomb), Nick Mestad (Molli and Max in the Future), Colby Smith (IFC), Alise Morales (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Nathan Min (Joe Pera Talks With You), Maggie Crane (Netflix Is a Joke)

It all started when… I was going through my Google Drive and came across a file marked Danimal Videos. This was an idea from many years ago that I never did anything with. The character is a guy named Danimal who makes crazy videos about animals. I thought to myself, I should do make these videos or I could write Danimal’s story and turn into a short film, so I did the later of the two. After creating an outline and script, I hit up my buddy Matt Strickland to see if he’d be into making this with me. He said "YES", and that's when the adventure took off...
